About Retire Well Australia

Retirement is one of the biggest decisions most Australians will ever make. Where you live, how you spend your time, what happens to your money, how your health changes — these aren’t small questions. And yet most of the information available online is either too generic to be useful, or written by someone trying to sell you something.

We built Retire Well Australia because we kept seeing the same problem: families doing their best to research retirement living and coming up empty-handed. Either the information didn’t apply to Australia, or it was buried in jargon, or it was clearly written by a marketing team rather than someone who actually understood what families were going through.

We wanted to fix that.

Who We Are

Retire Well Australia is an independent publication — we have no affiliation with any retirement village, operator, or financial product. We don’t sell anything, and we’re not paid to recommend specific villages or services. When we earn money from this site (through advertising or affiliate partnerships), we disclose it clearly. You can read our full affiliate disclosure here.

The site is a family project. One of us has spent years working in retirement village sales in South East Queensland, talking to hundreds of families at every stage of the journey — from first enquiry to move-in day. The questions families ask, the things that surprise them, the mistakes that could have been avoided with better information — that’s the knowledge base behind everything we write.

The other brings a background in research and technology, making sure the information we publish is well-structured, easy to find, and genuinely useful rather than just comprehensive.

Together, we cover ground that’s hard to find anywhere else: the honest, inside view of what retirement village life actually looks like — written for Australians, not Americans or Brits.

What We Cover

Retire Well Australia publishes practical, independent guides across four main areas:

Retirement Village Life — what independent living really looks like, how to research and compare villages, what the waiting list process involves, and what residents wish they’d known before they moved.

Financial Planning for Retirement — how superannuation works in plain English, what retirement village contracts actually say, how to think about downsizing your family home, and what government support is available.

Health and Active Living — staying physically and mentally well after 60, exercise and nutrition for older Australians, and how retirement community life affects wellbeing.

The Family Guide — for adult children helping parents navigate the decision. How to start the conversation, what to look for on a village tour, and how to support a parent through the transition.

Our editorial approach

Everything on this site is written to inform, not to sell.

We don’t publish sponsored content disguised as editorial. We don’t accept payment to recommend specific villages or operators. When we include affiliate links — for example, to comparison tools for superannuation or health insurance — we label them clearly and only include them when we genuinely think they’re useful.

Our industry contributor reviews all content related to retirement village life for accuracy. Where we discuss financial topics, we’re providing general information only — not personal financial advice. We always recommend speaking with a qualified financial adviser before making major financial decisions.

We update our content regularly. The retirement sector changes — regulations shift, costs move, new villages open. We do our best to keep our guides current and note when information was last reviewed.

A Note on Independence

We are not affiliated with any retirement village group, aged care provider, financial institution, or government body. Our industry contributor’s employer is not named or referenced on this site — her insights are drawn from years of professional experience, not from representing any specific operator.

If you have a question, a correction, or want to suggest a topic we haven’t covered, we’d love to hear from you. Use our contact page and we’ll get back to you personally.
